Dr. Peter Smulowitz, whose appointment was announced Wednesday, joined Milford Regional late last year after having held various leadership roles for Beth Israel, including chair of emergency medicine at its Needham campus and the leader of an integrated care initiative at its Plymouth campus. He oversaw a pilot program at Beth Israel's flagship Boston hospital to redesign its response to major events.

Smulowitz, an emergency medicine physician, succeeds Dr. Leslie Selbovitz, who retired.

Smulowitz graduated from the University of California Irvine's College of Medicine, and earned his master's in public health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in Cambridge. He is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School and is a former president of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians.
